Desireless is the stage name of French singer Claudie Fritsch-Mentrop, whose signature song "Voyage, Voyage" became a Number 1 hit in nearly a dozen European countries during the late-1980s. Fritsch-Mentrop was born in Paris, France, on December 25, 1952, and raised in Le Tréport. Although she initially worked as a fashion designer, she began plotting a music career in the 1980s after meeting collaborators like Jean Michel Rivat. Along with co-writer Dominique Dubois, Rivat composed "Voyage, Voyage," which became Desireless' debut single in 1986. Although performed entirely in French, the song became a hit across much of Europe and Asia during the latter half of the decade, reaching Number 1 in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Greece, Israel, Lebanon, Norway, Thailand, and Yugoslavia. "Voyage, Voyage" also reached Number 2 in France, where Desireless' follow-up single, "John," peaked at Number 5 in 1988. Both singles appeared on her debut album, François, which was released in 1989. Mixing the danceable textures of Eurodisco with the electronic sounds of synth-pop, François was a hit in France, where it reached Number 29 and later went gold. Desireless took a brief hiatus to focus on raising her child, then released a sophomore album, I Love You, in 1994. She released music at a slow pace throughout the 21st century, with highlights including 2007's More Love and Good Vibrations and a series of collaborative releases with her duet partner, Antoine Aureche, during the 2010s.
