One of the most successful boy bands in American history, *NSYNC formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995. The roster featured singers Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and former Micky Mouse Club members Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez. Together, the boys made their debut with "I Want You Back," which was released in October 1996 and charted in the Top 10 in Germany, Switzerland, and the UK. In America, the single reached number 13. *NSYNC's self-titled debut album followed in 1997, featuring hits like "Tearin' Up My Heart" and "Here We Go." An international success, the album topped the charts in several countries, including Germany and Austria, and reached number 2 in America, where it eventually sold more than 10 million copies. In 1999, the group began a legal battle with its original manager, Lou Pearlman, ending in with an undisclosed settlement that allowed the group to partner with a new label, Jive Records. The album No Strings Attached followed in 2000, setting a new record by selling 2.4 million copies in America during its first week. With singles like "Bye Bye Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me," No Strings Attached reached Number 1 in America, Canada, and Malaysia. *NSYNC returned in 2001 with another Number 1 album, Celebrity, which featured the Top 20 singles “Pop,” “Gone,” and “Girlfriend” (featuring Nelly). Despite its success, Celebrity proved to be the group's last release for two decades, with the group taking a long hiatus in 2002 and Justin Timberlake launching a solo career shortly thereafter. After a 21-year absence, *NSYNC returned to the Top 40 with 2023's "Better Place," which debuted at number 25 that September.
