Kurdish singer-songwriter and composer Mem Ararat, was born on September 17, 1981 in Girkê Şêxê village of Dêrik district in Mardin Province, Turkey. Ararat's family moved multiple times due to economic and political conditions when he was seven years old.
Ararat began his music career in 2014 with the album Quling Ewr û Baran. He released his subsequent albums Kurdîka (2016), Xewna Bajarekî (Dream of a city, 2018), Niştiman (Home, 2019) and (2020). Notable singles include "Pîvok" (Crocus, 2019) and various video clips such as "Payîz"(Fall, 2016), "Zozan" (2018), "Xatirxwestin"(2019). In 2020, Ararat's concerts in provinces Mersin, Diyarbakır and Bursa were canceled by the Turkish government due to his Kurdish-language performances. Despite this, he continued to advocate for his right to perform in Kurdish.
