A self-proclaimed, out-and-proud “indie fuck” with the voice of a bruised, toughened angel. A chipped-nail-varnish kinda girl, and “quite a boyish girl. You’ll never catch me in a skirt.” A 19-year-old singer-songwriter who began her first writing and recording sessions barely a year ago, in the Easter holidays when she should have been revising for her A-levels. A teenage talent brimming with ideas (lyrical, musical, inspirational, generational) but who was only taken seriously by one music teacher at school. Luckily, he knew a producer called Will Hicks, who knew a shooting-star newcomer when he heard one – which he did, via a song Dylan had written at school called Drinking About You. An artist who’s here – loud and brilliant and with killer tunes – right now, but won’t be going anywhere soon, whatever happens. “I’m in this for the long game. Not the quick road to success then burn out. I’ve never let failure get to me. It’s a massive driving force for me, a defiant, empowering thing.” A woman with ambition: “I want to be heard by as many people as possible, because I want to go global, because I want to speak to as many girls as possible – and boys. They need to hear this too! Let’s all be empowered by a sad song, and connect with it. I want to spark real, human emotion. Everyone is connected through music, right? Or, they should be.”
