Irish folk singer-songwriter Sonny Casey found her voice at seventeen, whilst travelling, busking, and gigging her way around Europe. Her music is influenced by contemporary folk artists such as Phoebe Bridgers and Gregory Alan Isakov and the wild landscape of her home on the West Coast of Ireland.
With a distinctive voice, weaving between soft and delicate and raspy and soulful, Sonny’s voice is powerful and timeless. Her deep love of words and storytelling lends itself to emotive lyrics with hidden depths, drawn from dark places.
After years of busking and gigging her songs around ten European countries, Sonny moved to Berlin in 2020. Supported by those who'd fallen for her music along her travels, she ran a successful crowdfunding campaign, to record her debut live EP with a band.
In 2021, Sonny released her EP ‘Phoebe', playing and selling out her debut headline show at Prachtwerk, Berlin.
In 2022 Sonny Casey toured Ireland playing venues such as Monroes and the Róisín Dubh and festivals such as the Galway Folk Festival and Secret Song. She has shared the stages with the likes of Liam Ó Maonlaí and Susan O'Neill and supported Mick Flannery at his sold-out Irish shows.
In winter in an attic by the Atlantic Ocean, Sonny recorded her debut album with producer Rotem Fisher. The first single from which is set for release in October 2023.
