British pop rock band Liverpool Express was formed in Liverpool in 1975. The group consisted of Billy Kinsley, Roger Scott Craig, Tony Coates, and Derek Cashin. Their early material was developed in a small rehearsal room at the Bluecoat Chambers in central Liverpool. Drummer John Ryan joined in 1976, marking the beginning of their recording career with the album Tracks, produced by Hal Carter and released through Warner Bros. Records. The band's breakthrough came with support slots on Rod Stewart’s UK and European tour from November to December 1976. Notable songs from this period include "You Are My Love" and "Every Man Must Have a Dream". They achieved significant chart success in South America, scoring two consecutive Number 1 hits and touring Brazil in mid-1977. In 1978, Prince Charles requested Liverpool Express to perform at the Royal Gala Performance in Liverpool. The band later abbreviated their name to L.E.X., releasing their third album L.E.X. with new drummer Pete Kircher. Following lineup changes and a period of reduced activity, the original members reunited in August 2002, leading to the release of The Best Of Liverpool Express. Notable digital chart success came when "You Are My Love" topped the digital download charts following a re-run of a Top of the Pops episode. Once Upon a Time, the group's fourth full-length album, came out in 2003 via Every Man Records.
