Pistol Annies

Female country supergroup Pistol Annies arrived on the scene in 2011 with a mix of rootsy bluegrass harmonies and twangy, honky tonk hooks, with songs that told of drinking, divorce and recreational drug use. Miranda Lambert was already well established as a country star with two top ten hit albums when she met up-and-coming singer Ashley Monroe and the pair spent an evening listening to tracks by a Nashville songwriter with whom Monroe had been collaborating. The night ended with the pair phoning Angaleena Presley to request more of her songs. Pretty soon the three artists were exchanging material that didn't suit their solo careers and they naturally morphed into a band.

After making their first live appearance together during a CBS television special called 'Girl's Night Out: Superstar Women of Country', their debut album 'Hell On Heels' was typically packed with heart and humour and their wickedly honest tales of small town life which earned comparisons to country greats like Dolly Parton, Bobbie Gentry and Loretta Lynn. Both 'Hell On Heels' and their second album 'Annie's Up' reached number five in the US charts and the group went on to tour with Lambert's then-husband Blake Shelton and record tracks with Jewel and The Chieftains as they became highly regarded as blue-collar storytellers and good time country pop rebels.

As solo artists their careers also continued to blossom, but after a four-year hiatus in which they experienced divorce, pregnancy and all manner of heartbreak, they reunited in 2017 to record a song for Presley's album 'Wrangled' and covered 'Tulsa Time' for a Don Williams tribute record. Putting their experiences to good use, they championed their credentials as tough women on third album 'Interstate Gospel' in 2018, their most personally revealing and instantly accessible work to date.
