Bush Tetras are an American post-punk and no wave band from New York City formed in 1979. The founding lineup consisted of vocalist Cynthia Sley, guitarist Pat Place, bassist Laura Kennedy, and drummer Dee Pop. They reached prominence in the Manhattan club scene and released their debut single, “Too Many Creeps” (1980), which reached number 57 on the Billboard dance chart. Their subsequent recordings include the single “Things That Go Boom in the Night” (1981) and the extended play Rituals (1981), featuring the track “Can't Be Funky” (1981). After disbanding in 1983, the ensemble reformed in 1995 and released the studio album Beauty Lies (1997). Kennedy died in 2011 and was replaced by several musicians before Cait O'Riordan joined them in 2023. Pop died in 2021 and was succeeded on drums by Steve Shelley. Their discography includes the studio albums Very Very Happy (2007), Happy (2012), and They Live in My Head (2023). They also issued the career-spanning boxed set Rhythm and Paranoia: The Best of Bush Tetras (2021).
