Biography

The product of an unlikely alliance between Mexican soloist Leonel García and Argentinian-born Noel Schajris, Latin pop duo Sin Bandera (English: Without A Flag) formed in the early 2000s, with their collective stage name intended to reflect their idealistic worldview. The South American pair found immediate success with their debut single, “Entra En Mi Vida”, which served as the theme for Mexican TV series Cuando Seas Mía and introduced them to the Spanish-speaking world. By 2002, they had recorded and released a self-titled debut album via Sony, which stormed the Latin Grammy Awards and was later certified double platinum in the US, producing another hit in the form of “Te Vi Venir”. Returning the next year with their follow-up album, De Viaje, they celebrated a rare achievement after three of the LP’s tracks topped the national Mexican charts, a feat at the time only achieved by RBD and Shakira. After picking up another Latin Grammy for the album, they explored a new sound, recording a pair of thematically interlinked albums: 2005’s Mañana and 2006’s Pasado. With the former intending to look to the future and the latter paying tribute to the romantic ballads of the 1970s and 1980s, the two concept albums went hand-in-hand, with Pasado incorporating R&B influences into traditional sonics. In 2007, the duo announced their indefinite hiatus, later returning in 2015 for a final EP entitled Una última vez (English: One Last Time).
