Charlie Robison

Country music singer-songwriter Charlie Robison was born on September 1, 1964, in Houston, Texas. Originally interested in pursuing a career in football, an injury while attending Southwest Texas State University brought an end to those dreams so he chose to embrace his love of music instead. Moving to Austin, he played in several local bands before deciding to pursue a solo career, releasing his debut album, Bandera, in 1996. Signing with Sony / Lucky Dog Records, he released the album Life of the Party (1998), which included three charting singles: “Barfight,” “My Hometown,” and “Poor Man’s Son.” His next album, Unleashed Live (2000), was followed by Step Right Up (2001), which climbed to number 27 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart and included the Top 40 Country hit “I Want You Bad.” Charlie Robison released another live album before leaving Sony and signing with Dualtone Records. His 2004 release, Good Times, was a move away from mainstream country music and embraced his classic Southern rock roots. The album became one of his most acclaimed releases and included the singles “El Cerrito Place” and “Photograph.” Five years later, Charlie Robison followed Hard Times with the album Beautiful Day, which rose to number 33 on the Country Music Albums chart. In 2013, he released Live at Billy Bob’s Texas, which was closely followed that same year by the studio album High Life, which reached number 48 on the Country Albums chart. Charlie Robison continued to play live for the next several years but announced his retirement in 2018 after surgery left him unable to sing. However, he did return to live performing in 2022. Charlie Robison died from cardiac arrest on September 10, 2023, at the age of 59.
