Biography

Whereas most Christian pop groups muster up thoughts of happy-clappy tambourine sing-alongs and Kumbaya, P.O.D. share their message through raging metal licks, rap-rock rhymes and hardcore melodic breakdowns. Formed by born-again Christians Marcos Curiel (guitar) and Wuv Bernado (drums) in San Diego in 1992, the band were part of the post-grunge, alternative scene that saw Rage Against The Machine and Limp Bizkit start to mix hip hop, funk, punk and hard rock influences into a fierce, full throttle sound that soon became known as nu metal. From underground, independent heroes, P.O.D. (Payable On Death) signed with Atlantic Records and made their breakthrough with the anthemic single Alive and big-selling, US Number 6 album Satellite (2001). Follow-ups Payable On Death (2003), Testify (2006) and When Angels & Serpents Dance (2008) all reached Number 9 in the US and the band became a hard rock institution, playing giant venues across the world and selling over 10 million records.
