Louis Monte, born Luigi Sacco on April 2, 1917 in New York City, was an American singer and actor. He gained attention as a teen idol during the late 1940s and early 1950s. His music career began with RCA Victor in 1953, making his debut with Lou Monte Sings for You in 1957. The following year, Monte released Here’s Lou Monte, his second album for RCA Victor, which included several hits such as "Angelina" and "I've Got a Crush on You". His breakthrough hit "Pepino the Italian Mouse" became a chart-topper, peaking at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 1958. In 1967, Monte released Lou Monte Sings Good Time Songs, featuring hits like "By the Light of the Silvery Moon"and "Are You Lonesome Tonight". Monte continued to release music throughout his career, signing with various labels including Reprise Records and Laurie Records, releasing Lou Monte's Greatest Hits (1976) on Tele House and Fun Italian Style (1975), a compilation of his popular songs. In 1981, he released the album "Shaddap You Face" under AFE Records. His final years were marked by health issues leading to his death at age 74 in Florida on June 12, 1989.
