Sana Cissokho was born into a traditional Mandinka family of Dialys/Griots where he learned to play the kora from his parents Lamine Sissoko and Ndeye Diongtang Diabaté.
Hailing from Casamance, in southern Senegal known for its rich cultural heritage, his unique sound has drawn comparisons to his uncle Ballaké Sissoko, Toumani Diabaté, and his cousin Sona Jobarteh.
Sana's music reflects the soulful sounds of his homeland and weaves together intricate melodies that pay homage to the musical traditions in West Africa and fusion with contemporary sounds. As a Diali or griot himself, his music is a reflection of the history of his people, passed down from generation to generation through song and storytelling.
