Ensemble Organum

Ensemble Organum, a French early music group specializing in the performance of medieval vocal music, was founded by Marcel Pérès in 1982. The group initially focused on performing early music from the Middle Ages, including Beneventan, Old Roman, Gallican, Carolingian, and Mozarabic chants. Their album, Polyphonie Aquitaine Du XIIe Siècle: Saint Martial De Limoges, was released in 1984. Over the years, Ensemble Organum expanded its repertoire to include Renaissance polyphony and more recent works. Notable albums include École Notre-Dame: Messe Du Jour De Noël (1985), Missa Pange Lingua (1986), and Carmina Burana (1990). The ensemble has collaborated with various artists, including Lycourgos Angelopoulos, and has been influenced by Orthodox music. Ensemble Organum has also worked on musical research in collaboration with musicologists and historians. Their extensive discography, primarily released by Harmonia Mundi, includes Chant De L'Église De Rome VIe – XIIIe Siècles (Incarnatio Verbi) (2008) and Lux Pepetua. Requiem (2012). The group has been based at various locations, including Sénanque Abbey and Royaumont Abbey, and since 2001, they have shared facilities with the Centre itinérant de recherche sur les musiques anciennes in Moissac Abbey.
