French baritone born in Marseille on September 10, 1968, Ludovic Tézier studied opera singing with Claudine Duprat, then with Michel Sénéchal at the École d'art lyrique de Paris. In 1998, he tied for second prize with Joycd DiDonato in the Operalia Competition created by Plácido Domingo. This recognition enabled him to pursue an international career, performing the greatest operatic roles appropriate to his vocal range, notably in Lucia di Lammermoor (Donizetti), Don Carlos and other lyric dramas by Verdi, Eugene Onegin and The Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky, Tannhaüser by Wagner and numerous works by French composers such as Bizet, Gounod and Massenet. Winner of two Victoires de la Musique awards, in 2006 and 2013, Ludovic Tézier was named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2011. In addition to recordings and video recordings of the operas in which the baritone takes part, he records his first recital with Frédéric Chaslin conducting the Orchestra of the Théâtre Communal de Bologne. The recital, devoted to arias by Verdi, includes excerpts from La Force du destin, Ernani, Don Carlos (French and Italian versions), Nabucco, Le Trouvère, Falstaff, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Othello and Un bal masqué. One of the most famous and celebrated baritones of his generation teams up with German tenor Jonas Kaufmann in the recital Insieme - Opera Duets (2022), followed by Verdian productions of Macbeth under the baton of Roberto Abbado and a famous Tosca conducted by Daniel Harding, with a cast including Eleonora Buratto and Jonathan Tetelman. The recording, released in 2025, was awarded a Diapason d'or.
