Michael Cooper

Michael Cooper, born in Vallejo, California, began his musical journey in the early 1970s by forming the funk band Project Soul with drummer Louis A. McCall. The group evolved into Con Funk Shun, achieving significant success with hits like “Ffun” and “Love’s Train.” In 1987, Michael Cooper embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut album Love Is Such a Funny Game, which featured the hit single “To Prove My Love,” reaching number 3 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart. He followed up with the 1989 album Just What I Like, producing charting singles such as “Should Have Been You” (number 8) and “My Baby’s House” (number 7). In 1992, Michael Cooper released Get Closer, which included the standout track “Shoop Shoop (Never Stop Givin’ You Love),” peaking at number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 17 on the R&B chart. After a brief hiatus, he returned with the albums This Heart of Mine in 2001 and Are We Cool in 2004. Throughout his career, Michael Cooper has been recognized for his smooth vocals and contributions to the R&B and funk genres.
