Cesar Darío Castillo is a Venezuelan-born Christian singer, songwriter and pastor who built a long ministry around worship songs like “Preciosa Sangre.” He was born in San Fernando de Apure and raised in Calabozo, Guárico, and as a child he already sang at school events before forming his first band Los Jersis at 14 to play local parties. In his mid-teens he worked under the stage name Cesar Petit, recording the single “Te amaré toda la vida” with Los Limones Dulces, joining the bolerista team around Oscar D’León and Dimensión Latina, and later recording “Dame un Beso” and “Falsa Mujer” with Orquesta La Amistad, achievements that led the newspaper Meridiano to name him Breakthrough of the Year in 1979. After a period singing boleros in U.S. salsa bands and then stepping away from the secular scene, he returned to his Christian faith and, in the mid-1990s, relaunched his career with a Christ-centred message. His first Christian album Yo Soy (1994) opened international doors through evangelist Yiye Ávila’s ministry, and after emigrating to Canada he recorded Preciosa Sangre (2000), whose title track “Preciosa Sangre” became a modern worship standard on Spanish-language radio and TV, was associated with the film A Precio de Sangre, and earned him major recognition in Christian music. He followed with Un Canto a Jesús (2003), featuring songs like “Amor Verdadero” and “Internet.com,” and expanded into Mexican styles on Cesar Darío en México (2005), then consolidated his catalogue with Soy Un Bendecido (2008), which included favourites such as “Monte Calvario” and “Se Me Escapa la Vida.” Alongside albums, he published the book Una Provisión en Tiempos de Crisis, pastored congregations in California and later Montreal, and continued releasing projects like Un Canto a Jesús (reissued digitally in 2021), the EP Cosas Nuevas (2023), the single “La Vid Verdadera” (2024) and the album Un Niño en las Calles (2025), while serving as pastor of Casa Firme Bethel International in Montreal.
