The Bavarian indie rock band Sportfreunde Stiller was founded in Germering in 1995 and currently consists of singer and guitarist Peter Brugger, drummer Florian "Flo" Weber and bassist and keyboardist Rüdiger "Rüde" Linhof. After two EPs, their debut album So wie einst Real Madrid was released in 2000. They celebrated their breakthrough in 2002 with the single "Ein Kompliment", which stayed in the German charts for 64 weeks. The following three albums Die gute Seite (2002), Burli (2004) and You Have to Win Zweikampf (2006) all reached the top 10 in Germany and Austria and won several gold records. For the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, the soccer song "'54, '74, '90, 2006" stormed to the top of the singles charts. With the follow-up album La Bum (2007), they reached number 1 in Germany for the first time. The LP for their MTV Unplugged in New York (2009) was also a chart topper, even going double platinum. With the Udo Jürgens cover of "Ich war noch niemals in New York" and "Lass mich nie mehr los", two unplugged releases were successful in the charts. Driven by the hit single "Applaus Applaus", Sportfreunde Stiller made it to the top of the album charts in Austria for the first time with New York, Rio, Rosenheim. In 2016, their seventh album Sturm & Stille climbed to number 1 in Germany for the third time, reached number 2 in Austria and number 10 in Switzerland. The most successful single was "Das Geschenk". In the years that followed, the band went quiet and the three members turned their attention to other projects. From September 2021, they regularly appeared on their social media channels again to the delight of their fans and showed up in the rehearsal room and studio after a break of several years. After a six-year break, this resulted in the album Jeder nur ein X in 2022. The longplayer makes it to number 7 in the album charts in Germany.
