Bass Drum of Death is an American alternative rock group from Oxford, Mississippi, founded in 2008 by John Barrett. Originally a solo project, Barrett recorded the first two EPs-Stain Stick Skin and High School Roaches-on his own within the first two years. Their debut full-length album, GB City, was released in April 2011 on Fat Possum Records. This was followed by the self-titled second album in June 2013 on Innovative Leisure Records. After touring extensively across the United States and Europe, the band released their third album Rip This on October 7, 2014, introducing drummer Len Clark as a full band member. In May 2015, Barrett announced that the band would take a break due to personal issues, though they returned briefly to perform at the Made in America festival in Philadelphia that September. The fourth studio album, Just Business, appeared in 2018. That same year, they released a 7-inch single, "Too Cold to Hold" / "Wait", through Muscle Beach Records, featuring John Barrett alongside his younger brother Jim Barrett. On September 14, 2022, the band announced their fifth studio album Say I Won’t along with the release of the single "Say Your Prayers". A second single, "Find It", followed on October 19. Say I Won’t marked their return to Fat Possum Records and was released on January 27, 2023. In 2024, the band released a live album titled Live... and Let Die on June 8.
