King Woman

King Woman, a doom metal, post-metal, and shoegazing group from San Francisco, California, was formed in 2009 as a solo project by Kristina Esfandiari. The band's initial release, the single "Degrida / Sick Bed," came out on June 11, 2013, on Sleep Genius after Esfandiari left her other group Whirr. In 2014, King Woman released another single, "Dove / Fond Affections," on The Native Sound. The first EP, Doubt, followed on February 17, 2015, via The Flenser. King Woman signed with Relapse Records in 2016 and released their debut album, Created in the Image of Suffering, on February 24, 2017. The band's lineup evolved over time, with Peter Arensdorf taking on bass duties in 2016 and both bass and guitar duties after Colin Gallagher left in 2019. Their second full-length album, Celestial Blues, was released on July 30, 2021.
