Indie rock singer-songwriter Miya Folick was born on June 10, 1989, in Santa Ana, California. After finishing high school in 2007, she relocated to New York to study acting at New York University but later transferred to the University of California, graduating in 2011 with a B.A. from the School of Theatre. It was during this time that a friend taught her how to play guitar, prompting her to look for musicians to start a band. Her debut EP, Strange Darling, came out in 2015 and was followed by the non-album singles "Pet Body" and "God Is a Woman" in 2016. A year later, Terrible Records released a second extended play titled Give It to Me, as well as a compilation of her two EPs under the name Give It to Me / Strange Darling. Preceded by the single "Stop Talking," her studio debut Premonitions was released in 2018 to great critical acclaim. The album was supported through an American and European tour alongside the bands Pale Waves and Sunflower Bean. Over the next few years, Miya Folick recorded a cover of Death Cab for Cutie's "I Will Follow You into the Dark" for the teen drama Looking for Alaska (2019) and collaborated with LA-based musician and content creator Petey on the 2020 single "California - Prius Edition." In 2022, her song "Bad Things," included in her third EP 2007, climbed to Number 39 on the Adult Alternative Songs chart. After touring with various acts across the UK and Europe, she worked with producers Gabe Wax and Max Hershenow for the album Roach (2023). In 2025 followed Erotica Veronica, featuring the singles "Alaska", "Erotica", "Fist" and "This Time Around".
