Biography

Born on September 29, 1969, Raúl Alejandro Escajadillo Peña is a Mexican singer and songwriter who is better known to the world by his stage name Aleks Syntek. He was born in Merida, Yucatán, Mexico, and had a career as a child actor in television commercials and TV programs during the late 1970s. After leaving the world of acting, he dove into music, working as an assistant in several recording studios. It was at this point that he picked up his stage name, "Syntek," which is short for "Sin-teclados" ("keyboard-less" in Spanish) due to his constant need to borrow other people's keyboards. He formed his group, Aleks Syntek y la Gente Normal, in 1989. He released his debut album Hey Tú! in 1990, and quickly made a name for himself as a pop-rock artist. In 1999, Aleks Syntek was awarded the Prize of the Mexican Academy of Cinematography in the category Best Original Composition for Movies for his work on the soundtrack album for the Mexican film Sexo, Pudor y Lágrimas. He also adapted Randy Newman’s original song for Toy Story 3 into Spanish for the film’s Latin American release. Over the years, Aleks Syntek has released acclaimed and commercially successful albums such as 1997’s Lugar Secreto, 2003’s Multiple, and 2007’s Lección de Vuelo, which contains the pop-rock hit “Intocable.” In 2011, Aleks Syntek participated as a judge on the Mexican version of The Voice.
