Biography

An American string band dedicated to blending old-time country music with super-charged rock energy, the Old Crow Medicine Show initially started life busking outside a pharmacy in Boone, North Carolina, where they were discovered by legendary folk/country icon Doc Watson. They had their beginnings when Ketch Secor and Critter Fuqua met in seventh grade at school in Harrisonburg, Virginia and, apparently inspired by a Bob Dylan bootleg track, 'Rock Me Mama', they started playing it together at open mic sessions.

Adding other musicians along the way, they embarked on an original style of high energy old-time music revivalism and their zany, full-blooded live act soon established their reputation as an exciting live act. The support of Doc Watson gave them great impetus, especially after a triumphant appearance at Merlefest in North Carolina in 2000. As the personnel continued to change they based themselves in Nashville and, in 2013, were honoured with an induction into the Grand Ole Opry. Heroes of country music, they also had the rare ability to cross over to mainstream audiences, and toured with such diverse artists as Mumford & Sons and Gillian Welch. Their 2014 album 'Remedy' won the Grammy Award for Best Folk Album and they received more acclaim in 2017 paying tribute once more to Bob Dylan with '50 Years of Blonde On Blonde'.
