The Controllers

The Controllers were an American soul and R&B ensemble from Birmingham, Alabama established in 1974. The group consisted of the musicians Lenard Brown, Rickey Lewis, Larry McArthur, and Reginald McArthur. They achieved professional recognition for the track "Somebody's Gotta Win, Somebody's Gotta Lose" (1977) which reached number 8 on the Billboard R&B chart and number 3 on the Cash Box soul chart. Their recording career included the track "Crushed" (1984) featuring the musician Stevie Wonder which reached number 30. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Stay (1986) which reached number 25 on the R&B albums chart and the track "Stay" (1986) which reached number 12. Their discography included the studio recording For the Love of My Woman (1987) and the studio recording Just in Time (1989). They achieved professional recognition for performing as an opening act for the musicians Ray Charles, Nancy Wilson, and the ensemble the Temptations. The group became inactive in 1997. Reginald McArthur died on 19 April 2018.
