Jesse Malin is a New York-based singer-songwriter known for his gritty, soulful blend of punk rock and Americana. Born in Queens on 26 January 1967, he first gained prominence as the frontman of the influential hardcore band Heart Attack in the early 1980s, before transitioning to front the glam-punk outfit D Generation in the 1990s. With D Generation, he became a fixture in the NYC punk scene, helping to shape its raw, rebellious sound. In the early 2000s, Jesse Malin embarked on a solo career, showcasing a more introspective and melodic side to his songwriting. His debut solo album, The Fine Art of Self Destruction (2002), produced by Ryan Adams, was widely acclaimed for its heartfelt storytelling and blend of punk energy with folk and rock influences. This marked the beginning of a long and prolific solo career that has seen him release numerous albums, including Glitter in the Gutter (2007), which featured collaborations with Bruce Springsteen and Jakob Dylan. Throughout his career, he has remained true to his roots, channelling the spirit of New York City in his music, with songs that often reflect the urban landscape, personal struggle, and resilience. In addition to his musical career, he is a co-owner of several popular NYC bars and venues, cementing his role as a cultural figure in the city’s artistic community. Jesse Malin's music continues to resonate with fans of authentic, emotionally-driven rock and roll, making him a celebrated figure in both punk and singer-songwriter circles. In 2024, he rallied a mammoth collection of rock and pop greats for his 28-track album Silver Patron Saints, from Bruce Springsteen and Billie Joe Armstrong to Lucinda Williams and Alison Mosshart.
