The sophomore album from Swedish-Argentinian duo WALCA, "Walnut," takes the listener on a journey deeper into the parallel musical universe that is WALCA.
All musical guests on the album were asked to freely improvise and play or sing whatever they felt in the moment, resulting in a collection of tracks that are rich in human sounds but devoid of recognizable lyrics.
"We're trying to create a mirror for the listener. WALCA is a collective space where we deconstruct how to make music. The songs aren't potential singles, they're chapters”, say the duo.
"Walnut" defies categorization, blending elements of ambient, trip-hop, chill out, and new age music to create a unique sound that can be described as contemporary art music. It's complex yet undeniably pop, with moments that are glitchy and crackly, and others that are meditative and serene. In the gentlest of ways, WALCA has created a form of techno that is sustainable by nature.
The thirteen songs on "Walnut" work together to create a tender, ever-shifting entity that somehow captures the scent of summer rain. Like clouds or migrating birds, the music drifts slowly by, inviting the listener on a journey of self-discovery.
