Frank Isaac Robinson, known as Sugar Chile Robinson, was born on December 28, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan. A child prodigy, he began performing at age three and gained national attention by appearing with Lionel Hampton. In 1945, Robinson played guest spots at the Paradise Theatre in Detroit and performed on radio with Hampton. His first recordings, "Numbers Boogie" and "Caldonia", were released on Capitol Records in 1949 and reached the Billboard R&B chart. He toured extensively, including performances for President Harry S. Truman at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in 1946. Robinson continued to perform until 1959 when he retired from music to pursue education. In the 2000s, Robinson made occasional musical appearances and was inducted into the Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
