Chicagoan rapper Elizabeth Eden Harris (May 31, 1997), better known by her stage name Cupcakke, attained viral success through her extravagant persona and her outspoken support for gay rights and female empowerment. Following a troubled childhood that included nearly four years at a homeless shelter, she discovered music and poetry through her involvement in a local church. Influenced by rappers such as 50 Cent, Lil’ Kim, and Da Brat, she made her debut with the track “Gold Digger” back in 2012, followed by a series of freestyles that she consistently uploaded to her video-streaming channel. In 2015, her singles “Vagina” and “Deepthroat” went viral online and helped pave the way for her 2016 debut mixtape Cum Cake. A second mixtape titled S.T.D. (Shelters to Deltas) saw the light later that year, as well as her first studio full-length Audacious, which combined raunchy lyrics with themes of queer acceptance (“LGBT”) and racial inequality (“Picking Cotton”). Cupcakke followed up with her second studio effort Queen Elizabitch, a wildly provocative album that was included on Rolling Stone’s 40 Best Rap Albums of 2017 and featured the track “Cpr.” Her first charting effort, Ephorize, came out in 2018 and peaked at Number 2 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart. A few months later, Cupcakke issued her fourth album Eden. After a frustrated suicide attempt and a 40-day hiatus from the music industry, she came back in full force in 2020 with the singles “Lawd Jesus” and “Discounts,” which topped the streaming charts in the US and cracked the Top 10 of Billboard’s Digital Songs chart.
