MADELYN ANN
A BOLD AND ORIGINAL MUSICAL UNIVERSE
Somewhere between Tove Lo and Coldplay, MADELYN ANN is a Breton band whose music is a cross between pop and atmospheric rock. The soft, powerful voice of Madeline Anne, the singer, gives the Breton language an English or Scandinavian sound that transports us and makes us dream.
Madeline met her future accomplices, Gaëtan Fagot (Robin Foster) and Olivier Le Hir, at the 2019 Bout Du Monde festival, on stage with Robin Foster and singing with Dave Pen from the group Archive.
In 2020, the new band released an acoustic video for their song Din eo. The video was widely shared on Facebook and featured in a playlist on France Bleu Breizh Izel, as well as being broadcast on France 3 Bretagne. MADELYN ANN was then nominated for the Priziou 2021 (prize for the future of the Breton language) and won second prize.
The 4-track War-Vor was released on 9 April 2021, with a studio version of Din eo. Between tours, Brendan Costaire (Frigo, Lys) reunited with Gaëtan, with whom he had already worked, and joined the band as drummer during the War-Vor recording sessions.
With War-vor, by combining pop energy with airy sounds, the group is blazing a new trail in the Breton musical landscape. Their compositions are resolutely contemporary and rooted in the present. Listening to these tracks, it's hard not to appreciate this language, so beautiful when sung and set to music by the group.
MADELYN ANN won the Taol Lans 2021 competition, where the quartet performed an electric version for the first time. In 2022, after sharing the stage with the likes of Denez Prigent and Nolwenn Korbell, the group is expected to perform at some of Brittany's most prestigious cultural events, including the Fête de la Bretagne, the Festival de Cornouaille and the Festival Interceltique de Lorient.
MADELYN ANN's 1st album, NEVEZ AMZER, will be released in spring 2023 by Aztec Musique/PIAS. It is preceded by the single Chom ennon in January.
NEVEZ AMZER: 10 tracks sung in Breton, where the group takes us on a musical journey through dance pop, energetic rock and cinematic music, evoking artists such as London Grammar, Florence + The Machine and Kate Bush.
The singer's lyrics take a poetic look at the world and the subjects close to her heart (the place of women in our society, ecology, the wounds of life and love).
Perhaps the most international of Breton albums to date.
