Monique Brumby, born 16 September 1974 in Devonport, Tasmania, is an Australian indie-pop singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer who began performing in Hobart streets while still in school. Her breakthrough came with the 1996 single "Fool for You", which entered the ARIA Singles Chart at number 31 and earned her the 1996 ARIA Award for Best New Talent; the follow-up EP Mary saw the title track win the 1997 ARIA Award for Best Female Artist. Brumby’s debut album Thylacine (June 1997) was produced by David Bridie and supported by a national tour with Paul Kelly. After a brief period with Sony/Columbia, she established her own label Little Wind and released Signal Hill (October 2002) and Into the Blue (March, 2006), the latter featuring the Paul Kelly duo "Melting". In 2010 she issued Skeletons’ Polka, co-produced with Mark Opitz, and in 2014 released a self-titled album that included the single "All the Ways". Brumby collaborated with artists such as Paul Kelly and The Bangles, touring extensively across Australia, and producing recordings for other musicians, solidifying her reputation as a consistent contributor to the Australian music scene.
