From the soils of Anloga, the great coil, some of us took our first steps. Since then, our lives have been a journey. We don’t know our exact destination, we just know we are coming. He is Megborna, and he says, “I am coming.”
From his humble beginnings of performing through his high school days and all over pubs and gatherings across Ghana, Megborna, has hon his craft into a unique style of capturing realities and lives. A journey of conscious-awakening-of-self that is gradually making him a household name in Ghana, earning him spoken word awards from institutions such as Ghana Association of Writers, (2018 & 2019) and landing him on platforms like TEDxAccra (2016) and more.
Drawing inspiration from Akpalu, Megborna’s music and poetry seem to be the one. He does not differentiate his poetry from songs. You will usually hear his songs turn into words that are recited as the song is being sung or played; other times, his poems will flow into music. A fascinating dimension to Megborna is how he puts music, poetry, drumming and dancing into one package. There is a fluidity to how it all flows as one.
He works extensively with sound projections and techniques unique to Ghana. Still, you will always feel a dynamic twist of sound elements not so different from all sounds anywhere else.
Megborna The more I try to tell my stories and raise concerns and issues, the more I realise there is more I need to know
What started as a desire to be heard is gradually leading me unto a path more spiritual and both culturally and consciously awakening to me
MEGBORNA’s spoken word and music is characterized by heavy use of pidgin, and Ghanaian languages most especially the Ewe language.
