Jens is the German electronic music duo of Jens Mahlstedt and Gerret Frerichs, best known for their iconic 1993 trance anthem “Loops & Tings.” Originally released on Superstition Records, the track quickly became one of the most influential German hard-trance records of the early '90s. Its hypnotic hook, rolling percussive loops, and euphoric build helped define the sound of early European trance, earning heavy rotation in clubs and massive support from DJs across Europe. The track’s enduring impact is reflected in dozens of remixes — including the seminal Fruit Loops Remix — and its inclusion on many major compilations, such as the Trance Nation series. Beyond “Loops & Tings,” the duo was associated with Hamburg’s pioneering underground techno scene and the forward-pushing output of Superstition. Although their releases as Jens were limited, the project left a lasting legacy as a touchstone for trance and techno producers worldwide.
