Formed at the Stonehenge Free Festival in England in 1983, Ozric Tentacles are a British instrumental band known for their distinctive blend of psychedelic space rock, progressive rock, electronic music and world music influences. Led by guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Ed Wynne, the group developed a cult following on the UK free-festival circuit, initially distributing homemade cassette albums, beginning with Erpsongs (1984). Their first widely distributed studio album, Pungent Effulgent (1989), established their signature sound of spiralling guitar lines, intricate rhythms, synthesizers and hypnotic instrumental jams. They achieved greater recognition with Strangeitude (1991), featuring the single “Sploosh!”, and Jurassic Shift (1993), which reached the UK Top 10. Subsequent albums, including Become the Other (1995), The Hidden Step (2000), The Yumyum Tree (2009), Technicians of the Sacred (2015), Space for the Earth (2020) and Lotus Unfolding (2023), continued their exploration of psychedelic textures, electronic grooves and extended instrumental passages. Despite numerous lineup changes, Wynne has remained the band's central creative force. In September 2026, Ozric Tentacles released Harmonic Mind, their 17th studio album, featuring the current touring lineup and reaffirming their commitment to immersive, exploratory psychedelic music.
