Krzysztof Komeda, born Krzysztof Trzciński, was a Polish jazz pianist, composer, and physician who became one of the pioneers of modern European jazz. After beginning his career in the 1950s, he led several influential ensembles, including the Komeda Sextet and Quintet, and released the landmark album Astigmatic (1965). In addition to his jazz career, he composed more than 60 film scores, most notably for Roman Polański's Knife in the Water, Cul-de-sac, The Fearless Vampire Killers, and Rosemary's Baby.
