Denys Baptiste, born on September 14, 1969, in London, is an English jazz musician. He began studying music at school from the age of 13 and continued his education at the West London Institute of Higher Education and the Guildhall School of Music. His breakthrough came with his debut album Be Where You Are, released in 1999, which earned him a Mercury Prize nomination and won the MOBO award for Best Jazz Act. He has since released several acclaimed albums, including Alternating Currents (2001), Let Freedom Ring! (2003), Identity by Subtraction (2011) and The Late Trane (2017). His work has been recognized with multiple nominations for the MOBO Awards, BBC Jazz Awards, and Parliamentary Jazz Award. He has collaborated with numerous prominent musicians such as McCoy Tyner, Courtney Pine, and Manu Dibango.
