Angels & Agony is a Dutch futurepop and dark wave band from the Netherlands. Formed in 1995 as a successor to the group Ode, the ensemble originally included singer Krieno Zandinga, but the core lineup established in 1995 consisted of singer Reinier Kahle, guitarist Erik Wierenga, synthesist Marco van Belle and drummer Fried Bruggink. The group's name was inspired by a graphic novel project Kahle was developing at the time of the band's formation. In 1999, the ensemble released the single “Unity” through Aragon Records. After signing with the German label Out of Line, the group released its debut studio album, Eternity, in 2001. This was followed by the singles “Darkness” (2001) and “Forever” (2002), and the EP Salvation (2003). Their subsequent recordings included the studio albums Avatar (2004), Unison (2007) and Monument (2015). The band has performed at festivals including Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Amphi Festival and M'era Luna. The ensemble has collaborated with groups such as Girls Under Glass and VNV Nation.
