Mary Ann Sexton, known professionally as Ann Sexton, was born on February 6, 1950, in Greenville, South Carolina. She began her musical journey singing in church choirs and participating in local talent shows before singing back-up on a recording by Elijah and the Ebonies. In the late 1960s, she formed Ann Sexton and the Masters of Soul with her husband, Melvin Burton. Songwriter David Lee recorded her first solo single "You're Letting Me Down" in 1971. She then signed to Seventy 7 Records, releasing her debut album Loving You, Loving Me in 1973, which included the hit single "You're Gonna Miss Me". The track reached number 47 on the Billboard R&B chart. Sexton died on March 13, 2025.
