Jimmie Davis, born James Houston Davis on September 11, 1899 in Quitman, Louisiana, was an American singer and songwriter. He began his music career performing on Shreveport radio station KWKH before signing with Victor Talking Machine Company in 1929. His early work mirrored the style of Jimmie Rodgers, and he achieved his first major hit "Nobody's Darlin' But Mine" in 1934 after signing with Decca Records. Davis released "You Are My Sunshine" in 1940, which became Louisiana’s official state song in 1977 and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. He also had a Number 1 hit single in 1945 with "There's a New Moon Over My Shoulder". Davis passed away on November 5, 2000.
