Don Costa, born Dominick P. Costa in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, on June 10, 1925, was an American conductor, arranger, record producer, and guitarist who lived until 1983. He learned guitar as a child, joined the CBS Radio Orchestra in his teens, and worked as a session musician in New York City. In the mid-1950s, he became the head A&R man, chief arranger, and producer at ABC-Paramount Records, where he discovered Paul Anka and signed Carole King. Joining United Artists Records as A&R director in 1959, he released his instrumental album The Theme from "The Unforgiven" in 1960 and scored hit singles with “Never on Sunday”, which sold over 1 million copies and reached number 27 in the United Kingdom, and “Theme from The Unforgiven (The Need for Love)”, which reached number 27 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
