The Brussels Jazz Orchestra is a Belgian jazz ensemble founded in 1993 in Brussels, Belgium. The group was established by the saxophonist Frank Vaganée with Serge Plume, Marc Godfroid, and Bo Van Der Werf. Their debut album, Live (1997), featured compositions by Vaganée and Bert Joris. The orchestra performed with Toots Thielemans in 1998 and received the Prix Nicolas d'Or in 1997. Collaborations included composers such as Bill Holman, Maria Schneider, and Kenny Werner. Their recording Mama Africa (2010) received a South African Music Award in 2011. The orchestra provided the music for the film The Artist (2011), which received an Academy Award for Best Original Score. Their album Wild Beauty (2013) received two Grammy nominations. Subsequent recordings include Smooth Shake (2017) and Two Places (2021).
