String Driven Thing, a Scottish folk rock band, was formed in Glasgow in 1967 by Chris and Pauline Adams along with guitarist John Mannion. They released their self-titled debut album on the independent Concord label before moving to London in 1972. The group signed with Charisma Records and released another eponymous album produced by Shel Talmy, featuring standout tracks "Circus" and "Jack Diamond". They toured extensively with bands like Lindisfarne and Genesis. Their second album, The Machine that Cried, was released in 1973 but did not sell well at the time. The band's lineup changed frequently due to touring demands, leading to their initial disbandment. After a period of silence, Chris Adams released The Damage in 1991 and reformed the band for tours throughout the 1990s. Notable releases include Suicide - Live in Berlin (1995) and Steeple Claydon (2015).
