Man is a Welsh progressive rock and psychedelic rock band established in November 1968 in Merthyr Tydfil. The ensemble was founded by guitarist and vocalist Micky Jones, guitarist and vocalist Deke Leonard, guitarist and keyboardist Clive John, bassist Ray Williams, and drummer Jeff Jones. The group evolved from close harmony pop ensemble the Bystanders. Their recording career began with the debut studio recording Revelation (1969) followed by 2 Ozs of Plastic with a Hole in the Middle (1969). They achieved wider visibility with studio recording Back into the Future (1973), which reached number 23 on the UK charts, and live recording Maximum Darkness (1975), which reached number 25. Following a split in 1976, the group reformed in 1983 with a lineup consisting of Jones, Leonard, bassist Martin Ace, and drummer John Weathers. They subsequently released studio recordings including The Twang Dynasty (1992), Call Down the Moon (1995), Endangered Species (2000), Diamonds and Coal (2006), Kingdom of Noise (2009), Reanimated Memories (2015), and Anachronism Tango (2019). The group remains active, having relocated their performance base to Germany in 2011, despite the deaths of Jones in 2010, John in 2011, Leonard in 2017, and keyboardist Phil Ryan in 2016.
