The Lower East Side Band was an American rock band from Manhattan, New York, formed in 1967 as the backing group for David Peel. Originally featuring Harold C. Black and Billy Joe White, the band gained recognition in New York City's counterculture scene and signed with Elektra Records in 1968. Expanded by Larry Adam and George Cori, they recorded Have a Marijuana with Peel, followed by The American Revolution (1970). After lineup changes, the group continued performing with Peel, and in the mid-1970s was produced by John Lennon, who also produced Peel's The Pope Smokes Dope. The Lower East Side Band later appeared with Lennon and Yoko Ono as part of the Plastic Ono Band on The David Frost Show and performed at early pro-cannabis "smoke-in" events in New York and Washington, D.C.
