Collections of Colonies of Bees, an American musical ensemble from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was founded in 1998 by Chris Rosenau and Jon Mueller. The duo initially released their self-titled debut album on the UK-based label Rosewood Union. They signed with Polyvinyl Records and released Customer in 2004. The group expanded its lineup over the years, adding members such as Jon Minor, Jim Schoenecker, Thomas Wincek, Matthew Skemp, Daniel Spack, Ben Derickson, and Marielle Allschwang. Notable releases include Birds (2008), Giving (2011), Set (2014), and Hawaii (2018). Collections of Colonies of Bees also formed half of the band Volcano Choir with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, releasing Unmap in 2009 and Repave in 2013.
