Born Sean Michael Leonard Anderson, American rapper Big Sean was born in Santa Monica, California, on March 25, 1988. Raised in Detroit by his mother and grandmother, he was working as a telemarketer and doing rap battles on a local radio station when he sneaked into a promotional interview with Kanye West and begged the star to perform for him. This led to West signing the budding hip-hop star to his G.O.O.D. Music label and the release of the mix-tape Finally Famous Vol. 1 (2007). The single "Get'cha Some" helped propel his fame forward before his debut album Finally Famous (2010) featured guests like Pharrell Williams, John Legend, Lupe Fiasco, and Wiz Khalifa and peaked at number three on the Billboard 200. The lead single "My Last," featuring Chris Brown, also did well, and he teamed up with West and Roscoe Dash for the follow-up Marvin & Chardonnay. The rapper was very productive in the 2010s, releasing albums and mixtapes, such as Hall of Fame (2013), Detroit (2012), Dark Sky Paradise (2015), I Decided (2017), and Detroit 2 (2020). He also had hits and collaborations with Common, Miguel, John Legend, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Chris Brown, and more. In 2016, the title "Bounce Back" reached number six in the charts, a result that he did not find again despite a regular production until the album Better Me Than You (2024), counting the participations of Gunna, Charlie Wilson, Ellie Goulding, Thundercat, Bryson Tiller, Kodak Black or even DJ Premier and The Alchemist.
