Abyss has been active as a DJ since 1991 and, as one of Germany's most innovative DJs, helped shape the scene of the 90s and early 2000s. Although the Frankfurt-born DJ, who has been living in Berlin since 1995, has mainly worked behind the scenes throughout his career, he was one of the few East German DJs, alongside Dresden-based DJ Hardsequencer alias Hardy Hard, to establish himself internationally. His rapid rise as a DJ catapulted him into the top ten of the most popular German DJs for the first time in 1994. He gained notoriety for founding the first techno club in the former GDR in 1992, as resident DJ at the famous Tresor Club Berlin, as founder and owner of the German print magazine Ten Dance, as well as for his numerous releases, including on the legendary Berlin label MFS. In 2004, DJ Abyss discontinued TenDance Magazine and also withdrew from the active DJ & producer business for the time being to devote more time to his family life. Since 2012 he returns with regular mixes on Soundcloud, in March 2013 he plays again for the first time at a large event created especially for him.
