Roberto Leal, born António Joaquim Fernandes on November 27, 1951, in Macedo de Cavaleiros, Portugal, was a Portuguese singer and actor who emigrated to Brazil in 1962 at the age of eleven. His breakthrough came in 1971 with the single “Arrebita” after appearing on the television program Discoteca do Chacrinha. Leal's discography includes the gold-certified albums Carimbó Português (1976) and Rock Vira (1977), as well as Roberto Canta Roberto (1999) and Raiç/Raízes (2009). Throughout his career, which spanned over 45 years, he achieved 30 gold and five platinum discs, sold between 15 million and 25 million records, and received 500 awards. Leal died on September 15, 2019, in São Paulo, Brazil.
