Alba Farelo is a Catalan singer from Vilassar de Mar, a seaside town close to Barcelona. She was born on March 7, 1997, and is better known by her stage name Bad Gyal. Her musical style combines reggaeton with influences of dancehall and electronic and her career success began with a cover of Rihanna's “Work,” which she posted on her video-sharing channel. The track spiraled into an international viral hit and launched the singer's career. In 2017, she released “Jacaranda,” a track that garnered widespread critical acclaim and went on to accrue almost 9 million hits on video streaming platforms. Bad Gyal sings in her native Catalan interspersed with Spanish and English, it's a style that has won her fans across many Spanish-speaking countries and she has built up a considerable online following for her work. In 2018, she released the album Worldwide Angel, a collaboration with Dubbel Dutch and Jam City and the album's success has seen the artist become one of Catalonia's most celebrated musical exports. After signing with Interscope Records in 2019, Bad Gyal scored a slew of platinum-selling singles including “Santa María,” “Hookah,” and “Zorra,” followed by her third full-length Warm Up in 2021. The album placed fifth on the Spanish charts and included the song “Flow 2000,” which went to number 38. Later that year, she unveiled a second extended play titled Sound System: The Final Releases, featuring three previously unreleased fan favorites and collaborations with producers El Guincho, Ricky Blaze, Supa Dups, Alejandro Armes, DJ Nelson, Arkey-O, Scott Storch, and SickDrumz. Preceded by the singles "Real G" with Quevedo, "Chulo" with Tokischa and Young Miko, and "Mi Lova" with Myke Towers, her highly anticipated studio debut La Joia came out in early 2024 via Universal Latino and Interscope Records.
