MC Marks, born Paulo Alexandre Marques, is a Brazilian funk artist from Americanópolis in São Paulo's southern zone. Growing up in a working-class neighborhood, he was deeply inspired by funk music and influenced by a pagode group his father was part of. MC Marks began working at age 14 to support his family, but by 2012, he decided to dedicate himself fully to his passion for funk, ultimately leaving his job and pausing his studies to focus on his music. His breakthrough came with the viral hit "Deus é por Nós," which accumulated over 171 million on his channel, and highlighted his melodic style and socially conscious lyrics. Known for using his music as a platform for discussing social issues, including inequality and political critiques, he quickly gained a following for his unique ability to articulate the struggles of São Paulo’s communities. Other notable songs, like "Céu de Pipa," solidified his role as a spokesperson for the favelas. In 2018, MC Marks signed with Som Livre, marking a significant step in his career. That year, he released his official debut album Um Minutinho, followed by Nova Mente (2022), 1994 (2023), and the pagode album Menino de Fé (2024), which featured contributions from Xande de Pilares, Adilson Puka, Marvvila, and Ferrugem. 2025's De Repente Plin Plin marked his return to funk, featuring hits like "Contexto da Noite," "Me Deixa na Onda," "Por Aí," and "Alamedas da Vida (365 Dias)."
