Los Pasteles Verdes was formed in the early 1970s in Chimbote, Peru, by brothers guitarist Víctor Hugo Acuña and keyboardist César Acuña. The group’s early lineup included vocalist Aldo Guibovich, singer German Laos, drummer Jorge Luis Príncipe, bassist Miguel Moreno, and percussionist Juan Vásquez. Their breakthrough came with the single “Angelitos Negros”, which achieved widespread success across Latin America and preceded the release of their debut album Recuerdos de Una Noche in 1974. Over the next decade the band released a steady stream of albums including Los Pasteles Verdes Vol. II, Mañana de Amor, Los Pasteles Verdes Vol. III, Hipocresía, Mi Amor Imposible, …Nuevo Horizonte…! and Ámame… Ámame…, and cultivated a strong fan base in Mexico and among Mexican-American audiences. Notable singles such as “Esclavo y Amo” charted in the region and the group toured extensively, including a 2007 tour of Japan. In the 2000s the group released various compilations and collections, and an earlier compilation Una Historia de Éxitos: Aldo & Los Pasteles Verdes was issued in 1991. Los Pasteles Verdes remained recognized over the years for their sustained influence on Latin pop and romantic ballad music.
